“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” Margaret Mead
Welcome to our blog. We will keep you up-to-date on members, announcements, testimonies, and all kinds of interesting industry insights here. For this first post, you are hearing from me, Chelsea LeMar, Executive Director, Professional Women in Construction. I want to give you some updates.
PWC is an organization with 350 NYC members, and 800 members throughout out our chapters (and growing). We have chapters in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, and our most recent chapter, Philadelphia. Our vision is to be a national community of women and men who promote women in the construction industry.
Do you know the story of how we started? The organization was established in 1980 with 8 women who were professionals in the industry, and realized they would have more visibility if they banded together. It is 2017. Take a moment and imagine how the world has changed for women over the past 37 years. This organization has seen a lot, and there’s still a lot more to see. And we will be here for it all.
I came on as Executive Director in August of 2015, and Frances Wilson joined PWC in November 2015. The past two years we have worked with the Board of Directors and members to determine the direction of PWC, grow the membership, and upgrade systems and processes internally to best serve our members.
This website is a resource for you, yes you. If you are not a member, we encourage you to become one, here’s where you can find that information: MEMBERSHIP. Our approach is to listen to our members, follow trends, and provide support and resources that feed our mission. We want to give our members the exposure they need to advance their careers.
We will continue to band together, because together, we are better.
