NYC - The PWC held the NYC BIG Trade Show at the Guardian Building where Real Estate Professionals from every walk came together for a day of learning and networking. PWC President Lenore Janis recounted to a packed GSA audience at the Together Building Change Conference at the Marriott Marquis May 27th the story of the progress women and other minorities had made in the industry. She recalled 1943 transportation magazine that advised managers that "girls" needed to take breaks to "freshen up" in order to maintain their productivity.

Lenore Janis, president of Professional Women in Construction (PWC), has announced the establishment of the Gwendolyn Colbert Kushner Memorial Scholarship in memory of Kushner. The GCK Scholarship will provide tuition towards an M.S. degree in Construction Administration offered by Columbia University's School of Continuing Education. The award will be granted to a qualified woman with financial need. "The GCK Scholarship exemplifies Gwendolyn's ideals and pays tribute to her, by allowing the principles to which she committed her life to live on. It will give future generations of women new and meaningful opportunities to succeed," says Janis.

Get ready for more Trump. Speaking at an event hosted by Professional Women in Construction last week, Ivanka Trump, executive vice president of The Trump Organization, said that her company is continuing to expand the Trump brand into the international market.

Professional Women in Construction, led by the organization's president, Lenore Janis, and a capacity crowd drawn from the industry's leading companies and agencies, gathered to pay tribute to a stellar group of honorees recently at the annual PWC Salute to Women of Achievement luncheon held at The Yale Club in New York City.

Rosie the Riveter may be iconic, but female executives in construction have faced an uphill battle securing contracts in a male-dominated industry. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the construction industry is the second-largest employer in the country with over 10 million workers, but just under 10 percent are women. Of those women, only about 26 percent, or 291,000 women, are in management positions.

"Adaptation to the new trends in the business and real estate market is essential for survival" said Rosemarie Subasic, senior manager with Hines, speaking to a rapt crowd at "Meet the Real Estate Industry," presented by Professional Women in Construction (PWC). The June 24 event at Club 101 included tabletop exhibitors and drew a broad spectrum from the A/E/C industries. "Our audience is eager to 'meet the real estate industry,' especially in today's competitive and challenging market," said PWC President Lenore Janis.

Women have been making significant strides and carving their own niche in the male-dominated field of construction over the last few decades. Their contribution continues to impact the industry

"How will we meet the rapidly escalating demands for energy and power without further endangering the environment?" A group of industry leaders tackled a variety of energy issues at "'Watts' the Future of Energy & Power," a special breakfast forum organized and presented by Professional Women in Construction (PWC) at the General Society Library in New York City.

"These are the movers, shakers and decision makers in our industry, a group determined to expand and rebuild our region and beyond" said Professional Women in Construction (PWC) president Lenore Janis on February 26 as she introduced the honored guests at PWC's "Meet the Construction Chiefs," a business interchange featuring table-top exhibits.

Professional Women in Construction on March 26 rolled out the red carpet to pay tribute to a group of "leading ladies" from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The all-star cast, led by Susan Bass Levin, first deputy executive director of the Port Authority, are playing key roles in the agency's $29.5 billion 10-year capital program.

Looking for opportunities. Creating opportunities. These were defined as two key tactics for "Carving a Niche" in today's turbulent real estate market in a Developers Forum hosted by Professional Women in Construction (PWC) that featured several of the NYC metro area's most creative and successful developers.

We polled several of PWC's members and the consensus is that it could have some effect in the short term, but it should all even out in the long run. For one thing, these cutbacks wouldn't have an impact on the actual functioning of the transit system.

Excitement. Upbeat spirit. Contagious energy. B-to-B interaction. Enthusiasm. These words and phrases describe the environment industry trade shows aspire to but few attain. Yet they were used repeatedly by exhibitors and participants offering congratulations to The BIG Show, the mega Trade Show and Professional Recruitment Fair presented by Professional Women in Construction on October 17th at the Digital Sandbox in New York City.

On Friday, December 7th, Professional Women in Contruction (PWC-NY National) celebrated its 27th year in grand style at the annual gala holiday dinner dance held at the Yale Club in New York City.

On Wednesday, October 17, Professional Women in Construction (PWC) hosted the BIG Show: its largest ever mega-Trade Show and first time Professional Recruitment Fair at the Digital Sandbox in New York City. The debut performance proved to be a resounding success, drawing rave reviews and applause from all.

Will the real estate market soon regain momentum or will the downward trend deepen? That was the question explored at a recent breakfast program presented by Professional Women in Construction (PWC): "Quality Developers Take on a Queasy Market." New York Post real estate reporter and online columnist Lois Weiss, the moderator of PWC's ongoing series of developers forums, noted: "There's a pause in the market. It's catching its breath. Traditionally, the public views the construction industry as one dominated by males. Still ingrained in American cultural ideology is the iconic image of a young boy playing with a dump truck next to his sister, who is holding a doll. How about those countless holiday commercials featuring a yellow construction vehicle with a bow conspicuously attached under a tree, or the numerous others showing a doll sticking halfway out of a stocking on the hearth, bathed in the warm glow of a dwindling fire? To some extent these perceptions survive, but may now be in a position to start fading away. Gender inequality and sex discrimination in the construction industry have plummeted since the 1980s, but there remain two obstacles for women to overcome: a nearly complete absence from the absolute highest positions, and a tremendous disparity between the percentages of male and female workers.

Still ingrained in American cultural ideology is the iconic image of a young boy playing with a dump truck next to his sister, who is holding a doll. How about those countless holiday commercials featuring a yellow construction vehicle with a bow conspicuously attached under a tree, or the numerous others showing a doll sticking halfway out of a stocking on the hearth, bathed in the warm glow of a dwindling fire? To some extent these perceptions survive, but may now be in a position to start fading away. Gender inequality and sex discrimination in the construction industry have plummeted since the 1980s, but there remain two obstacles for women to overcome: a nearly complete absence from the absolute highest positions, and a tremendous disparity between the percentages of male and female workers.
